Border Stone
Marotta – Via Vecchia Osteria (Via Old Tavern)
The border stone, a stone parallelepiped of about cm 74X127X29, containing a long Latin inscription, was arranged in 1544 in order to put an end to a dispute between the towns of Mondolfo and Fano about the boundary between these two territories, and between the Dioceses of Senigallia and Fano. This stone has marked for centuries also a kind of “State boundary”, since the community of Fano was directly subjected to the temporal government of the Holy See, whereas the community of Mondolfo was part of the Duchy of Urbino. The border stone has been recently restored on an initiative of Archeoclub Mondolfo.

Public well
Marotta – Kennedy Square
Forbidden the use of the ancient well, situated in the barracks of the papal Customs Officers before, and of the Finance Guard then, in 1927 the town of Mondolfo carried out in Marotta this handmade that could be utilized by the local community. The handmade looks as an simple but pleasant architectonic structure, in a style that can be defined Neo-Renaissance. It’s one of the most ancient handmade present in the seaside resort of Marotta.

Railway Station Marotta-Mondolfo
Marotta – Station’s large Square
The interest of the community of Mondolfo in the building of a railway in its territory dates back to 1874; the previous year, Pope Pio IX had promulgated the edict for the building of the railway Roma-Ancona-Bologna. In that occasion the town bought some shares in order to achieve the purpose that would have brought benefits to the territory. The practices for the building of a station started in 1870; the railway station, provided also with a goods station at service of the whole Cesano Valley, was inaugurated in 1884. The railway station Marotta-Mondolfo, which has been recently restored, has been ascribed - on initiative of the local seat of Italian Archeoclub – among the monuments of industrial archaeology present in the Region, as evidence of the industrial civilization and transports of end '800. The station has been accepted by the high school “Fermi” in Mondolfo under the project “The school adopts a monument”.
